History

The Huntington High wrestling program is one of the top programs in the state every year. Coach Bill Archer was the school's first state champion in 1966, then brought the program from anonymity to a perennial leader as head coach from 1971-2006. Huntington High School has crowned 43 individual state champions and numerous state placers. Huntington High and Huntington East consolidated in 1996 to form the new Huntington High.

Coach Rob Archer took over the program for the 2006-2007 season after an 8-year stint as an assistant to his father. Rob (class of '93) is assisted by HHS graduates John Dempsey (HHS '90), Steve Riner (HHS '04), Justin Jarrell (HHS '06) and Jonathan Spence (HHS '14). Huntington Wrestling’s program is strongly supported by its alumni and booster club. Huntington High’s wrestling team is fed by local middle schools: Huntington Middle, and Huntington East Middle. The Huntington Youth League feeds into the middle schools.
